Midwife lead Maternity Unit

Airedale General Hospital

The Midwife lead Maternity unit refurbishment at AGH is a great example of our experience in working on a fast-track healthcare projects in complex live clinical environments with a multi-faceted stakeholder group.

Bridger Carr assisted the Trust to secure the largest single grant, of any Trust in the country, from the central government scheme Birthing Environment Fund. Through our process of client engagement and expert understanding of construction we were able to deliver this fully designed scheme, from concept to completion, within 3½ months.

Bridger Carr transformed the Trusts existing multi-bed delivery rooms into 100% single occupancy delivery suites incorporating ensuites, birthing pools, patio doors onto individual private patio areas and bespoke cabinetry walls which were designed to concealed medical equipment. Bridger Carr supported the Trust to create the bespoke-style accommodation it desired with a chic interior colour scheme which was developed through consultation with the maternity staff and Head of Midwifery.

An important element of the refurbished facility was the new bereavement suite with sleeping accommodation and en-suite facilities, sitting room, private patio and a viewing room, all located in a quiet, secluded area of the unit to afford grieving families privacy and dignity at their difficult time.

“This project regardless of its size was a huge long awaited project for the Airedale Maternity Service and may yet be the project that helps to secure the future of the service for many years to come…”  “By completing this project to such a high standard and improving the birthing environment so dramatically it will have a hugely positive impact on so many women and their families’ experiences and lives in those precious moments when we bring new life into the world … So all in all, whether the birth experience for Airedale women will be happy or sad we at least can guarantee it will be in a wonderful high quality environment, for that I give you all my personal sincere thanks.”
